SeamonWhiteside Accelerates Southeast Economic Boom with Strategic Hire Kris Phillips

by GroundBreak Carolinas Staff on April 8, 2025

Charleston-based SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, announced the strategic appointment of Kris Phillips as the director of economic development. Phillips brings 13 years of experience, resulting in multi-billion dollar investments and job creation. In this new position, Phillips will play a key role in expanding SW+’s industrial profile and strengthening its partnerships with brokers, developers, and economic developers across the Southeast.

“For many years, I’ve been impressed with SW+’s industrial services, their timely approach to projects, and their professionalism,” said Phillips. “I am excited to join this great team and work with so many talented economic development professionals in the Southeast.”

Phillips brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Throughout his career, he worked on economic development projects across 35 states, including his tenure as a site selection consultant and as the assistant director of economic development in Chester County, SC. Phillips currently serves on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Economic Developers Association (SCEDA). He holds a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and a JD from Charlotte School of Law.

“Phillips’ expertise in site selection and economic development will enhance SW+’s ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions, transforming industrial parks and standalone sites into prosperous projects and regions,” said Joe Bryant, executive vice president of SeamonWhiteside. “Hiring him is a decisive move in our commitment to drive significant economic growth throughout the southeast.”

In his role, Phillips will focus on partnering with economic developers to enhance their product offerings, helping SW+ attract top industrial and manufacturing projects and bring more work to the region. Leveraging SW+’s expertise in site selection and civil design, he will support economic developers to position their sites more competitively before, during, and after the site selection process. With his extensive familiarity with South Carolina and North Carolina counties, Phillips is well-equipped to help economic developers highlight their strengths, secure capital investment, and create high-quality manufacturing jobs.

As SW+ continues to expand, Phillips’ role will be integral to supporting economic growth and responsible development in the Southeast.
